El Dorado was a mythical city said to be rich with gold, first reported in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries. The rumoured location of El Dorado is disputed in different sources, but most commonly said to have been in South America.
English To Hindi City Of Gold
In some accounts El Dorado is a man, in others a lake or a valley. By 1835, the myth of El Dorado was already three centuries old, according to the BBC (opens in new tab), but its origin and whether a real city of gold existed is still disputed.
DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD starts off showing a young Dora (Madelyn Miranda) enjoying life with her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and her cousin Diego (Malachi Barton) in the jungle -- until Diego and his parents move "to the City." Young Dora looks directly at the camera, asking viewers to repeat words in Spanish, and believes that her monkey Boots talks to her -- just like on the show. But in the movie, her parents consider it a quirk of her being homeschooled. A decade later, a now teen Dora (Isabela Moner) makes a breakthrough discovery that leads her parents on a mission to Peru to unearth a legendary Incan city. While they're gone, they send her to live with Diego (Jeff Wahlberg) and his family in Los Angeles. For the first time in her life, Dora has to attend public school with kids who are decidedly uninterested in her earnest curiosity and friendliness. During a field trip to a museum, Dora and her friends are kidnapped and taken to Peru -- but they escape with the help of Alejandro (Eugenio Derbez), a friend of her parents. Together they try to find her parents and the city of gold.
Some explorers wanted to conquer lands for their home countries. Others sought out riches, particularly gold. In fact, the search for gold led many explorers to South America. There, they looked in vain for a lost city supposedly made of gold. What are we talking about? El Dorado, of course!
In the early 1500s, Spanish conquistadores heard tales of an Amazonian king who regularly coated his body with gold dust, then plunged into a nearby lake to wash it off while being showered with gold and jewels thrown by his subjects. The Spaniards called the city ruled by this flamboyant monarch El Dorado, Spanish for "gilded one," and the story of the gold-covered king eventually grew into a legend of a whole country paved with gold. These days, El Dorado can also used generically for any place of vast riches, abundance, or opportunity. It is also the name of actual cities in Arkansas and Kansas.
